I will post, on Fridays, selected leadership quotes. I’ll try to maintain a theme in a given week’s quotes, but if something in particular strikes me that week, it will probably go in anyway!

On humility…

Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility.
~Saint Augustine

Humility must always be the portion of any man who receives acclaim earned in the blood of his followers and the sacrifices of his friends.
~Dwight D. Eisenhower

We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility.
~Rabindranath Tagore

Many people believe that humility is the opposite of pride, when, in fact, it is a point of equilibrium. The opposite of pride is actually a lack of self esteem. A humble person is totally different from a person who cannot recognize and appreciate himself as part of this worlds marvels.
~Rabino Nilton Bonder

I have three precious things which I hold fast and prize. The first is gentleness; the second frugality; the third is humility, which keeps me from putting myself before others. Be gentle and you can be bold; be frugal and you can be liberal; avoid putting yourself before others and you can become a leader among men.
~Lao Tzu

Take care, and enjoy life,
